Knock- Out
I have recently seen one of the best documentaries, in my opinion, ever made. And it is not just an ordinary documentary. This documentary happens to be a ONE person documentary about the former heavy weight Champion Mike Tyson.
James Toback's Film "Tyson" is an intimate look at the life of the former heavy weight champ told in his own words.
What is great about this film is that here you have this controversial yet magnetic person completely opening up about successes and failures in his life in and out of the ring. Tyson speaks about his life growing up in Brooklyn New York and how being picked on as a kid led him to boxing. He is moved to tears when he talks about his coach and guardian the late Cus D'amato.
Tyson takes us through all aspects of his life from legal trouble, his psychological process inside the ring and realtionship heart ache.
Every one has heard ofMike Tyson and whether you are a fan or not you will truly be moved by his own self awareness and how intimidation and confidence has shaped his life.

AInt I A Woman ?

The Track and Field World Championships wrapped up competition just about a week ago in Berlin, Germany .But of course, an international meet wouldnt be complete with out a little bit of controversy.
Eightteen year old Caster Semenya of South Africa had been questioned before the World Championships about whether or not she is a man, but was still allowed to compete in the Women's 800 at the Championships . She/He (b/c I really dont know and cant pass judgement on any one) easily won the 800 m race at the World Championships with a time of 1:55.45. But some thought it to be a little too easy. It was even reported that at a petrol station at Cape Town, Semenya was headed toward the female toilets but was stopped by petrol attendants and prevented from going to the restroom because they were convinced she was a man. One might suggest, such as my 13 yr old brother did, just have her take her pants down, but it isnt quite that simple. Semenya must under-go gender tests to prove she is a woman.
This unfortunate situation of gender controversy reminds me of a somewhat similar situation that took place a little over the 150 years ago.
The famous female abolitionist Sojuorner Truth was also questioned about her gender at one point in her life. And to prove her femininity she flashed, yes flashed everyone so they could see that indeed she was a woman. She also deliverer her famous speech, "Aint I a Woman" in 1851 in Akron , Ohio, in which she compared the work she did to the work a man does but still proclaimed AINT I A WOMAN!!!!!

Your Illegal Too

Hide your beagles, Vicks an Eagle"...This Is what I saw posted on a sign as I watched the morning news today. I MUST say i am so tired of hearing about this poor man!!!!! I mean I know he did something illegal but damn he served his time and all thses fools can not seem to let it go. I have to admit I am a dog lover and i love animals and what vick did was wrong. But i can not seem to get over the fact that this men went to jail, and lost everything YET Micheal Phelps is caught and photpgraphed with a bong smoking weed and all he gets is a suspension from a few meets and a little slap on the wrist. Now if you wanna be real.. the Bible says NO sin is greater than other, but i know majority of people dont follow that and therefore see some things worse than others. But lets be real BOTH acts are illegal and there is nothing that says that one act is more illegal than the other. I mean i have respect for micheal Phelps and how hard he has worked but he slipped up!!!! It just goes back to the same ol same ol..."let a black man do it and it will never be forgotten." Now I dont pull the race card too often but clearly the media has played a part in Vicks Continual humiliation because he is a black man. THIS IS THE TRUTH...and its sickening. This man served his time , he paid his dues and yet he is still being treated like we all JUST found out he commited this crime...STOP IT!!!!!
TV Hustlin
Some of my favorite tv shows have been from the 90s. One of my favorites is In Living Color. This was one of the first comdedy sketches that graced television and it was great to see that it was a diverse show but came from the mind of an African American. The Wayans have been making people laugh for years but their start it was one their greates works! check out this clip...one of my faves!

Makes me wanna holla
Since being an intern for the Gwinnett Braves baseball team , I have discovered that one of the greatest things (in my opinion) about being a baseball player is that when you are up to bat you get to choose the song that plays as your walking up to home plate. I mean , you dont get that in track or basketball or football...its Kind of like you rown personal anthem..kind of like giving the fans insight into who you are....As an intern I know just about every song that plays for each player...my all time favorite has been for number 22, Brian Barton. Even though i dont know him personally i feel as though this brother must have a lot of soul. His personal anthem if you will is Marvin Gaye's "inner City Blues (make me wanna holla). ?inner City Blues" was the third and final single from Gayes 1971 album "whats goin on". This song depicts the ghetto inner cities of America and how their situation would just make somebody holler. This song also helped Gaye make history by being one of the few artist to have three or more top ten songs off the billboard pop singles chart.... Some people say i was born in the wrong decade... i just think i have an ear for good music...
